Selihot & Zimrat Yah Service

Saturday, September 13, 2025 20 Elul 5785

8:00 PM - 10:00 PMBeit Midrash

Join us for a special Zimrat Yah and Selihot Service as we prepare our hearts and souls for the High Holy Days. This unique service, occurring the week before Rosh Hashanah, will include traditional Selihot prayers such as Avinu Malkeinu, along with other spiritually engaging songs in the Zimrat Yah style. Beginning with Havdallah, Rabbi Kornberg, Eph, Rachel, and Steve will lead us on a melodic journey, offering an opportunity to center and connect.

What is Selihot?

For most Jews, the High Holy Day season begins with Rosh HaShanah and the start of the new month of Tishrei. However, Jewish tradition teaches that the preceding month of Elul is a time of soul-searching and reflection to prepare oneself for the magnitude of the Days of Awe. It is during this time that we observe Selihot.

In Hebrew, Selihot translates to  “forgiveness,” and there is an emphasis in these prayers on the merciful attributes with which God is said to govern the world. We begin and end the season of repentance with the same words, calling out to the compassionate God who we hope will accept our prayers. The holiday occurs on the Saturday evening just before Rosh HaShanah. Prayers are read and meditations considered as individuals are encouraged to reflect on the past year and the changes they wish to make in the upcoming one.

We hope you can join us for this opportunity to start the New Year on the right "note."
