Prep Schedule
Ensuring a meaningful Bar/Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Beth Am
We have prepared the following checklist to guide your Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation and keep you on track for a timely completion:
- Schedule meetings with the Rabbis (contact Bonnie Cohen at bonnie@betham.com for scheduling) at each of the following milestone dates ahead of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah: 5-months, 6-weeks, 5-weeks, 4-weeks, 3-weeks, 2-weeks, and rehearsal
- Six (6) months prior to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah date, receive phone call from tutor and begin scheduling twenty (20) weekly lessons (if you have not received a call by six (6) months prior to your special day, please contact Rabbi Earne)
- Practice at home at home at least 30 minutes per day
- Prepare your speech, which is due at the 5-week meeting
- Pay your Bar/Bat Mitzvah fee in full prior to the 5-week meeting
- Attend monthly TNT classes as a family (Rabbi Earne will send out information regarding TNT at the beginning of each school year)
- Seven (7) to eight (8) months prior to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah, work on monthly TNT Mitzvah Project, or create your own under Rabbi Earne’s supervision
- Schedule a meeting with our Executive Director regarding JFS gift baskets, Oneg sponsorship, facilities, etc.
- Schedule a meeting with our Youth Director regarding future involvement in the Jewish community
- Complete Honors Sheet and return to Rabbi Earne by 3-week meeting
- Complete final copy of parents’ speech (not to exceed 500 words) and submit to Rabbi
- Submit a copy of Bar/Bat Mitzvah booklet (if you are working on one) to either Rabbi for approval
- Fill two (2) baskets with Kosher food to be displayed on the Bimah during the Bar/Bat Mitzvah service
