Beit Midrash Minyan
WHAT IS THE BEIT MIDRASH MINYAN?
The Beth Am Beit Midrash Minyan was established in November 1999. The minyan offers an intimate Shabbat davenning experience with an informal, haimish and family-friendly ambience. We emphasize kavannah — focused, meaningful, engaging, participatory prayer. Members of the Minyan have ongoing opportunities to read Torah, chant the haftarah, lead the services or share a dvar Torah. Many individuals have read Torah, chanted a haftarah or led davenning for their first time in the supportive atmosphere of the Minyan.
The Beit Midrash Minyan welcomes newcomers, whether participation is one-time, occasional or regular.
WHEN DOES THE BEIT MIDRASH MINYAN MEET?
The Beit Midrash Minyan meets regularly on Shabbat morning at 9:30 AM. Please consult the calendar to confirm specific dates.
After the service, we join together with those from the main service for the Kiddush.
HOW IS THIS SERVICE DIFFERENT FROM BETH AM’S REGULAR SHABBAT MORNING SERVICE?
Some of the significant ways in which the davenning of the Beit Midrash Minyan differs from that of the main sanctuary include:
The service emphasizes an uninterrupted flow of davenning.
- A complete Psukei D’zimra is davenned.
- Both the Shaharit and Musaf Amidah are led in the traditional fashion, first davenned silently by each individual, and then repeated aloud by the shaliah tzibbur (prayer leader).
- The Amidah shaliah tzibbur chooses whether or not to include imahot in his/her repetition of the Amidah.
- We honor people with aliyot individually.
